KENT: Cripps Unveiled as Headline Sponsor of KDA17

Award-winning law firm Cripps has agreed a deal to become Headline Sponsor of Kent Digital Awards 2017.

CHAMPIONS: Details of Digital Awards Champions Announced

The inaugural Digital Awards Champions is to take place in February next year and details of the event have now been announced.

Every Gold Award winner from Digital Awards 2016 schemes in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Milton Keynes and Surrey will automatically qualify for the Digital Awards Champions, an exclusive event where the ultimate winners across all regions will be unveiled.

And for the first time in Digital Awards history the overall winners in all 15 categories will be decided by public vote ahead of the Presentation Reception which will be held on February 9 at BFI Southbank in London.

Public voting will open on December 1, one week after the results of the Cambridgeshire Digital Awards 2016 have been announced.

Finalists of Digital Awards Champions will be sent a voting pack enabling them to encourage their supporters to cast a vote in their favour.

All tickets for the Presentation Reception will be priced at £20.17 + VAT, a special price for the first year only to celebrate the year of the launch of Digital Awards Champions.

PM Declares Support for Superfast Broadband

The Prime Minister has declared her future support for High Speed Broadband in Parliament today (September 7, 2016).

Teresa May, who came to office in July, gave her backing to the UK-wide rollout of internet connectivity in the first Prime Minister’s Questions since the Summer recess.

Her statement came following a call for continued Government backing for the Superfast Broadband schemes across the country from James Heappey, MP, who supports a rollout in his Somerset constituency.

Mrs May said: “I am very happy to give my Right Honourable Friend that assurance and also to join with him in paying tribute to his Council and the work that they are doing and indeed all those involved in that innovative scheme. High Speed Broadband is an important part of the 21st century infrastructure and we will be doing everything we can to ensure it is there and available for people because that will enable us to develop jobs and grow prosperity in this country”.

The Digital Awards is working with and fully supports Superfast Broadband rollouts in Essex, Surrey and Cambridgeshire through Superfast Essex, Surrey Connects and Connecting Cambridgeshire.

 

 

 

KENT: KDA16 – The Results

THE online achievements of businesses, charities and schools across Kent have been celebrated at the second Kent Digital Awards.

Accolades across 16 categories including “Website”, “Mobile App” and “Use of Social Media for Business” were presented to deserving organisations at the Motorsport Vision Centre, Brands Hatch, on June 23.

Compering the event was former BBC broadcaster Robin Bailey who presented Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes to a host of worthy winners.

Special guests included Conrad Murray, from the headline sponsor Nero Blanco, Gillian Forsyth of West Kent Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Councillor Roderick Hogarth of Sevenoaks District Council who all presented Awards.

The Kent Digital Awards was set up in 2015 solely to showcase online work.

Maidstone-based digital agency, Pillory Barn scooped Gold in the flagship “Website” category for their work on AshfordFor.com, a promotional site for the Ashford district.

Tunbridge Wells company, ifour, tasted triple-victory after winning Gold in “Blog: Business”, “Website: B2B”, for Lumina Energy, and “Website: Marketing & Creative” for TEDx Royal Tunbridge Wells, a speaker’s forum.

Ether Creative, in Maidstone, landed the top Awards in the “Website: Tourism & Hospitality” classification for its Hop Farm website design and in the “Mobile App” section for Country Eye a system for reporting suspicious behaviour, incidents or concerns in Kent.

In “Blog:Entertainment”, the plaudits went to Ecce Media for their blog on behalf of H2Open Magazine and the Gold award in “Website: Lifestyle & Culture” went to interiors retailer Skinners of Tunbridge Wells by MC+Co Marketing.

Other winners included adventure park Diggerland, in Strood, in “Use of Social Media for Business” and BritPong by Breakthrough Funding in the “Use of Video for Business” category.

BritPong by Breakthrough Funding, a site to promote the Beer Pong craze in the UK also landed Gold in “Website: Sports & Entertainment”.

KDA16 was headline sponsored by IT firm Nero Blanco and backed by the Courier, Kent County Council, West Kent Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sleeping Giant Media and Sevenoaks District Council.

Also victorious were DS-Virgin Racing by Zest in “Responsive Website”, Demelza Hospice Care for Children in “Website: School, Education or Charity” and Matthew Page Photography by Dan Gorham Creative Design for “Website: Small Business”.

The “Online Retailer” category Gold was won by Childrensalon, a purveyor of infant clothing, from Tunbridge Wells.

There was also a ‘Spirit of Kent’ award which was handed to Leeds Castle, near Maidstone, who were commended for ‘going above and beyond the call of duty for the betterment and promotion of Kent’ through their digital work.

KENT: Sevenoaks Council Signs Up To KDA16

The Kent Digital Awards has received the support of Sevenoaks District Council.

With the Presentation Evening taking place at Brands Hatch, on June 23, at the heart of the district, the Council has joined Kent Digital Awards 16 as a “Supporter” of the scheme.

Sevenoaks District Council is committed to driving forward the District’s digital economy in the years ahead.

A key objective of Council’s Economic Development Strategy (2014-2018) is to ensure the District has other 21st Century connectivity.

KENT: Kent County Council Backs KDA16

Kent County Council has joined forces with the KDAs as “Key Supporter” of the scheme.

The local authority – based at County Hall in Maidstone – has given its backing to the Awards as part of a programme to support the growth of Kent’s digital economy.

The Council joins West Kent Chamber of Commerce & Industry, also a Key Supporter, and Kent & Sussex Courier, the Media Partner who are providing rolling coverage of the KDAs.

Mark Dance, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, at Kent County Council said: “We are delighted to be involved with the Kent Digital Awards, a scheme that offers a platform to businesses, schools and charities for their online work.

The finalists of the Kent Digital Awards 2016 have been announced and the Presentation Evening tickets are now available.

So, to mark the fact, we thought we’d share some free wisdom from one of our KDA judges and sponsors, Lee Hutton of Sleeping Giant Media.

We spoke to expert Lee about getting the most out of social media, here’s what he had to say.

Social media can be simple in some aspects, but managing a business page can be difficult. Here are our top 10 do’s and don’ts of managing a business profile to give you a helping hand.

The do’s:

1) Complete your profile

First impressions are key, so whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, Google + or LinkedIn it is important to make sure you have the following:

  • A profile picture
  • A cover photo
  • A descriptive About Me section
  • Company details, including a link to your site
  • A username that is easily identifiable and links to your brand


2) Follow the right people

Twitter is a good way to build relationships by following the people and companies that are related to your business. This can help boost your follower numbers as well as increase engagement on your profile. Followerwonk is a useful tool to search for relevant profiles to follow.

3) Keep it short

Nobody likes reading an essay on social media. Creating a short post that includes the relevant information needed will allow your audience to absorb it quickly, and will help make the post more memorable. Also, shortening links by using tools such as Bitly can make the post look tidier, and can help save those much-needed characters on Twitter!

4) Be visual

Having a visually engaging profile will help your page become recognized and memorable. Make sure that your page represents your brand by using brand colours and visual imagery that is relevant to you. Posts with multimedia attract the eye, so therefore receive more engagement than posts without.

5) Post regularly

Posting regularly will show that the business is consistent, and this will help keep your followers updated as much as possible. With Twitter it’s good to tweet more than once a day, however Facebook and LinkedIn won’t need as many. Experiment with different times of day and how many posts you schedule and see what works best for your company. Tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer can be useful for scheduling posts.

The don’ts:

1) #Don’t #use #too #many #hashtags

Using hashtags allows posts and tweets to be categorised with similar content. However, using too many will make your posts look spammy and possible even unreadable. Try to hashtag the specific keywords in your posts.

2) Multiple profiles

Having multiple profiles causes a lot of complication and makes life difficult for people who are trying to search for you. If you have more than one Twitter profile try and delete them all and keep the one that is most active.

3) Poor gramma’r and CAPITAL LETTERS

Poor grammar and capital letters will make your page look unprofessional and can give off the wrong impression. For example, if a post says “WATCH OUR VIDEO NOW!” this could come across as angry to your followers. Even if you only have 140 characters, it’s still important to use the correct punctuation.

4) Don’t ignore complaints

Nobody likes complaints, but instead of looking at it negatively try and think of it as an opportunity to improve on the affected areas in the future. It is crucial to respond to complaints as it shows that you have acknowledged them and that you are willing to face up to the issue. A complaint unanswered could be worse for your company than the complaint being posted in the first place.

5) Sales focus

Selling products is key in a business, however a personal element is needed. Having the best of both worlds is vital as it will help to build relationships without bombarding people with prices.
