The Essex Digital Awards has teamed up with the largest, independent, voice for businesses in the county.
For more than a century Chambers of Commerce – the ‘Key Supporter’ for the EDAs – has been flying the flag for the private sector in Essex, growing from three smaller Chambers to become the Essex Chambers of Commerce we know today.
From standing up for business and achieving positive changes to bringing companies together, they have been at the heart of commerce within Essex for 107 years.
In fact one of the secrets of its continued growth as an influencer of business, since its’ predecessor was formed in 1907 – during the reign of Edward VII – is a continual evolution to meet the changing demands of business.
The first Chamber was created in a year that saw the first major procession of the Suffragettes, it survived two World Wars, and now in 2015 as Essex Chambers puts its name to the Essex Digital Awards – the first and only scheme to recognize the online efforts of businesses, charities and schools from across the county.
Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive of the Essex Chambers of Commerce, revealed why it is important for her organization to get behind an awards scheme that celebrates success on the Internet.
She said: “We are one of the county’s oldest business groups, if not the oldest but as society has changed so have businesses.
“Where once we sent letters and telegrams to do business now we have the age of the internet with companies using websites, emails, and electronic media to promote themselves.
“I am delighted therefore to support these awards which recognize the growing importance of the digital economy”.
As well as representing businesses at local level and in the ‘corridors of power’ at Whitehall, Essex Chambers also works with some of the UK’s leading organisations to deliver business information, advice, products and services on many aspects of running a company from HR to healthcare.
They also offer a range of training programmes and specific support for businesses dealing with international exports.
This year alone Essex Chambers will have organised close to 100 networking events where members can make new business connections and meet with a range of impressive key note speakers including executives from Ryanair, DP World, First Group and Essex & Suffolk Water.
Iain Johnson, from the Essex Digital Awards revealed that he was ‘absolutely delighted’ to be working hand-in-hand with such a respected organization.
“Of course, I’d heard of the Essex Chambers of Commerce for a very long time, but it only came to my attention in terms of approaching them about the EDAs when I bumped into them on Twitter,” he revealed.
“An organization with the stature of Essex Chambers of Commerce, which has been around in one form or another for more than 100 years and makes a huge difference to businesses around the county, is a great example to all of us about how we must all keep moving forward.
“Much of the Chambers’ work is, of course, still about one-to-one contact but they are also embracing the great technological advantages that the digital era has brought us and you can see from their involvement as ‘Key Supporter’ of the Essex Digital Awards how seriously they take it.”
Essex Chambers of Commerce is an independent, not for profit, membership organisation that represents businesses of all sizes and in all sectors of the economy across the whole of Essex.
They are affiliated to the www.britishchambers.org.uk and their goal is to promote and protect the interests of members with the aim of helping them become ever more successful by offering networking-opportunities, business support and providing a range of value added products and services.
They operate from three offices in Colchester, Southend-on-Sea and now Thurrock, which was officially opened by Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis MP, last year.
