The best of the county’s digital talent assembled for the second Essex Digital Awards at a jam-packed Winners’ Evening last night.
Accolades across a range of categories were presented to businesses, schools and charities from across Essex for their online achievements.
Hosting the busy event – at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, in Colchester – was former BBC journalist Robin Bailey who presented Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes across the 15 open categories.
Mr Bailey was joined on stage by a host of special guests including Miles Alvis from Headline Sponsor Lookers Volvo Colchester, Danny Hall, from Freelance SEO Essex, Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, Denise Rossiter, and Paul Dent-Jones, the editor of the Chronicle.
With more than three times the number of entries from 2014 the Essex Digital Awards has been declared a “smash-hit- success” by Mr Alvis, who’s company became Headline Sponsor after winning a Gold award at last year’s event.
Coggeshall-based web designers Sky Blue Creations scooped Gold in the flagship “Website” category for their work on behalf of floristry Jade’s Flowers.
Other winners included the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, who claimed the Gold “Use of Social Media for Business” gong and Colchester Borough Council who picked up the top prize in “Mobile App” for their Leisure World complex.
Taking the plaudits in the “Small Business Wesbite” category was The Lampshade Company in Colchester, while e-commerce experts 2Dmedia walked away as the first place “Online Business”.
Law firm Birkett Long, who were Gold winners at the 2014 ceremony, tasted success again as Gold winner of the “Use of Video for Business” category and St Mary’s School for Girls, in Colchester, deserved rapturous applause for landing the “School, Education or Charity Website” accolade.
Also receiving recognition was Colchester Zoo, which was presented the “Spirit of Essex” Award for going “above and beyond the norm to promote the county”.
Shortly before a hilarious comedy routine from TV presenter and stand-up Mark Dolan, 14-year-old Billericay School student Freddy Heppell, was given one of eight “Future of Essex” awards to recognise the county’s pool of burgeoning young digital talent.
The “Future of Essex” scheme was arranged by the EDAs in collaboration with Essex County Council’s STEM programme, which was launched in 2011 to bring together schools and local businesses to increase knowledge, participation and interest in science, technology, engineering and maths subjects and careers.
The Essex Digital Awards was also sponsored by Superfast Essex, Ding Video, Capricorn Media, Print XChange, designsixtyfour and Noise PR.
