Following the Milton Keynes Digital Awards on 13 October, we spoke to Lindsay Dow, Director of Lindsay Does Languages, who won two Golds – for ‘Blog: Business’ and ‘Use of Social Media for Business’ – following similar MKDA success in 2015.
Could you tell us a little about your organisation?
Lindsay Does Languages is an online business dedicated to inspiring language learning through online language lessons and courses. We regularly share free tips and resoruces with our audience via our blog, YouTube channel and social media platforms.
What made you get involved in the MKDAs?
Last year when I entered, I think it was on the back of seeing a Tweet about the event. I hadn’t lived in the area long and was keen to connect with other local businesses making an impact online both locally and further afield. It was an honour to win 3 awards last year – a bronze, silver and gold. They now sit on the wall behind me in my home office!
What does winning gold at the MKDAs mean to your organisation?
When you work alone and online, it isn’t every day that you get recognised for what you do. It may be that someone favourites a Tweet or comments on your blog, but nothing beats “real life” recognition, especially when it’s 2 gold awards! Earlier this year, I launched my latest online course, The Online Teaching Starter Kit for online tutors looking to start their business. Having these 2 awards will be a great benefit and social proof when the coruse opens for enrollment next time around.
Where will you be putting your award?
I’ll have to have a shuffle on the wall behind my desk to make room for the two new awards!
What was your most memorable moment from the MKDA presentation evening?
Getting the chance to thank Ashley, my partner in life and partially in business. Not only does he help to create incredible video content that I could only dream of for Lindsay Does Languages, but he is an incredible support when all of this solopreneur stuff gets a bit crazy!
What’s the best thing about the Milton Keynes business community?
The support from the variety of businesses in the local area is great! I look forward to being able to collaborate soon with local businesses.
