The Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council has urged businesses, schools and charities not to “miss out” on the Surrey Digital Awards, which closes for entry today.
Cllr Peter Martin, Cabinet Member for Economic Prosperity, believes the awards – which take place in March – present a “fabulous opportunity” for Surrey’s leading organisations to gain recognition.
Surrey Council County is backing the awards – which is open to companies from any industry – for the second year running.
The Surrey Digital Awards is the first and only scheme dedicated exclusively to celebrating the online achievements of businesses, schools and charities from across the county.
Mr Martin said: “The Surrey Digital Awards offers a fabulous opportunity for businesses, charities and schools from across the county to get recognition for the brilliant work they are achieving online.
“Having attended last year’s event, I would highly recommend that you don’t miss out on the huge amount of publicity that winning one of these awards can bring, not least through the Surrey Mirror.
“At the council we are committed to supporting Surrey businesses through the county’s digital infrastructure project Superfast Surrey, which is just one example of how committed we are to continuing to ensure that Surrey is the best place for businesses to thrive.”
The local authority joins the Mirror, Surrey Chambers of Commerce and the University of Surrey Business School who have chosen to back Surrey Digital Awards 2016.
The move follows the county council’s involvement with the rollout of high-speed broadband – a scheme launched in 2014 to make Surrey the best connected county in Britain.
The main advantages of ‘fibre broadband’ are a more reliable and speedy Internet connection leading to the potential for improved customer service and productivity.
Categories in the Surrey Digital Awards – which is free to enter – include “Mobile App”, “Use of Social Media for Business”, “Blog” and the flagship “Website” category which will be presented by the Council at the Presentation Evening in the HG Wells Conference Centre, Woking, on March 10.
