ESSEX: Superfast Essex Backs EDAs For Third Year

Superfast Essex, Essex County Council’s broadband improvement programme, is pleased to be sponsoring the Essex Digital Awards for the third year whilst continuing to extend faster broadband to over 120,000 premises in the county by 2019.

The Superfast Essex programme is to sponsor the “Online Retailer” category with the winners of all 16 categories being presented with their awards at the EDA17 Presentation Evening at Boreham House, Chelmsford, on May 18.

Superfast broadband is benefitting homes and businesses across the county and transforming the way Essex businesses operate, from enabling global enterprise to reducing costs and increasing efficiency with cloud-based services.

Superfast Essex is part of the Government’s national Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) programme to increase superfast broadband connectivity across the UK, led by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

The programme is delivering improved broadband in phases.

Phase 1 was completed three months ahead of schedule in June 2016 and saw 65,000 premises provided with access to better connectivity.

Phase 2 is currently being rolled out and so far the total number of homes and businesses able to achieve internet speeds of 24Mbps and above is 73,000.

The programme is aiming for 120,000 Essex premises to be connected to superfast broadband through their current plans with an additional Phase 3 being planned to extend broadband coverage even further.

More information about where the next phase of work will be rolled out will be announced in Spring/Summer 2017.

David Wilde, Essex County Council’s Executive Director for Place Operations and Chief Information Officer, who is also on the judging panel for EDA17, said: “The benefits of faster broadband shouldn’t be reserved for only large businesses.

“The Superfast Essex programme aims to bring improved connectivity to businesses of all sizes around Essex, helping them to make positive advancements and changes to the running of their business.

“Teaming up with the Essex Digital Awards is a natural choice for the programme and I look forward to finding out more about the nominated businesses in each category this year.”

Robin Bailey, Chairman of the Judging Panel at the Essex Digital Awards, said: “A fast broadband connection is vital to the tens of thousands of businesses based in Essex and we are delighted to be working, once again, with Superfast Essex who are rolling our broadband across the county.

“Superfast Essex is a brilliant and essential project and we are proud to be involved with it.”

In addition to providing information and tools associated with the programme rollout, the Superfast Essex website also hosts an online toolkit to help small businesses improve their digital know-how.

The Digital Toolkit contains a series of business blogs, vlogs and webinars on a range of topics including increasing online sales, attracting new customers, social media, blogging and the importance of cloud-based systems.

It also includes a Digital Health Check, to identify any areas where businesses can improve their digital expertise, and a ‘Fast Tips’ download which provides information and advice around a range of digital developments, such as cloud-based Services, Search Engine Optimisation and Social Media Marketing.

To view the Digital Toolkit and for more information on business broadband, including a short film with David Bell, Essex Chair of The Federation of Small Businesses, and Essex County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Infrastructure and Partnerships, on broadband improvements in Essex, visit www.superfastessex.org/forbusiness.

Find out the latest broadband rollout information for your area at www.superfastessex.org/maps. Anyone not covered by the Superfast Essex programme can check if they are eligible for inclusion in Phase 3 at www.superfastessex.org/whatshappeningnext and can register their demand for superfast broadband by completing the Make the Connection Survey at www.superfastessex.org/registerdemand.

ESSEX: Heart Radio Tunes In For EDA17

The biggest radio station in the county has tuned into the Essex Digital Awards 2017.

Heart Essex has signed up as “Broadcast Media Partner” for EDA17 following a successful tie up between the Digital Awards and its sister station in Milton Keynes.

Heart Essex – which boasts a weekly audience of 415,000 (RAJAR Q.3 2016) – is part of Global, the media and entertainment group, which is home to a host of other household names including Smooth Radio Classic FM, LBC and Capital.

The station is home to long-running breakfast show presenters Martin and Su along with Essex favourite Mark Wright and Emma Bunton.

The EDAs is the first and only awards solely to recognise the online achievements of businesses, schools and charities and now has the largest following of any awards in the county.

Entry for EDA17 closes on February 17, 2017.

In recent years, Heart Essex has grown its multi-platform business with a popular website as well as establishing an influential presence on social media platforms.

Every day Heart Essex delivers breaking news, travel, showbiz and competitions to more than 32,000 followers on Twitter and more than 110,000 fans on Facebook.

As broadcast media partner, Heart Essex will share news on the Awards through social media and www.heart.co.uk/essex

The EDA17 Presentation Evening will take place at Boreham House on May 18, 2017, and members of the Heart Essex team will attend.

Robin Bailey, Head of the EDA Judging Panel, said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with Heart Essex for EDA17.

“Their migration across to digital platforms over the past few years has been executed with great energy and imagination, they have a substantial online reach and we are delighted to be getting involved with them.”

Katy Flower, Commercial Director at Heart Essex, added: “We are thrilled to be working with EDA17.

“Essex is a vibrant county with so many digital entrepreneurs and it’s great that we’re able to help celebrate this culture of innovation.”

ESSEX: Freelance SEO Sponsors EDAs For Fourth Year

Leading search engine optimisation experts, Freelance SEO Essex, have given backing to the Essex Digital Awards for the fourth year in a row.

The firm – which helps businesses from all industry sectors improve their Google rankings, manage social media and offers pay-per-click management – has signed up as Associate Sponsor of the Awards and will present the “Blog: Business” award at the EDA17 Presentation Evening next May.

Freelance SEO Essex has sponsored the Awards since it began in 2014.

The company – based in Great Baddow – also offers web copywriting packages and link removal services.

Danielle Haley, a director at Freelance SEO Essex in Church Street, Great Baddow, explained why they decided to get involved with the EDAs for once again.

She said: “We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to continue our relationship with the EDAs into 2017 as Associate Sponsor.

“As the EDAs have evolved, so has our company. The scheme is now working with more businesses than ever before, as is Freelance SEO Essex – we’ve increased our reach substantially since we started working with the EDAs 4 years ago, and have seen our client base swell as a result. We can certainly attribute some of this success to the extra exposure we’ve generated from being part of this highly successful scheme.

“We’ve especially enjoyed supporting the Awards as it’s enabled us to learn more about the incredible work that’s taking place locally. Essex is a hotbed for digital activity and seeing all of the fantastic projects that are taking place here has really opened our eyes to the level of talent we’re housing in this county. Being amongst the crème de la crème of the digital industry inspires us to stay ahead of the game; it pushes us to keep improving and adapting our services to better meet the needs of businesses who want the best results from the web.”

ESSEX: Seetec Skills Sponsors EDA16 Social Media Award

One of the UK and Ireland’s largest business services providers delivering Government programmes across welfare, skills and apprenticeships, justice and public services is to sponsor the Essex Digital Awards 2016.

Seetec, an Essex based organisation, has been supporting hundreds of thousands of people back to work and improving their skills for over 30 years.

They recently launched the new Seetec Skills Academies and work in partnership with local businesses to help young people gain the practical skills they need to establish a successful career through traineeships and apprenticeships.

Opportunities for career development are available in three main industries; Business, Service and Digital. Aptly, Seetec Skills will sponsor the “Use of Social Media for Business” category at EDA16.

Seetec also supports employers with recruitment, training, advice and IT solutions.

Sean Purcell, National Operations Director at Seetec Skills, explained why his organisation is keen to get involved with EDA 16, which culminates with the Presentation Evening on April 14 at Weston Homes Community Stadium, in Colchester.

He said: “Seetec Skills are excited to sponsor the Use of Social Media for Business category at the Essex Digital Awards 2016.

“More and more businesses are recognising the significant value in inspirational use of social media for marketing and customer engagement.

“In turn this award recognises high achievement against such broad competition as can be found in the rapidly changing social media landscape.

“We know from our 30 years’ experience that employers must continually develop and utilise the full range of skills in their workforce to remain competitive.

“Seetec Skills is passionate about working with employers to fill their skills gaps through in-work training, turning talented staff into the business leaders of tomorrow.”

The Essex Digital Awards is the first and only scheme exclusively dedicated to celebrating the online achievements of businesses, charities and schools from across the county.

Entry for EDA16 closes on February 19.

Andy Pritchard from the EDA team declared he is “very excited” about the having Seetec Skills on-board.

He added: “For more than 30 years Seetec has been helping people improve their life chances and helping Essex businesses up-skill their existing workforce.
“Their mission sits extremely well with us and we’re thrilled they have chosen to get involved with the Awards.”
